A FERPA Checklist for Daily Scenarios in Higher Ed

Alongside the daily interactions school administrators have with students also comes questions from parents, sponsors, guardians and more.

What you can and cannot reveal to a non-student can be a bit of a land mine, all governed by FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). FERPA expert and university registrar and chief officer of enrollment information services at the University of Washington Helen Garrett recently gave a review of FERPA fundamentals, and how they are applicable in your daily interactions.

The discussion included:

  • A checklist of student information that can never be released to a person other than the student
  • Link to the full webcast
  • Additional FERPA resources (training broken down into manageable pieces, FERPA practice sessions and more)
